Korea’s first vineyard style LOTTE Concert Hall increases the intimacy between the stage and the seats that surround it and presents all members of the audience with sublime acoustics. The Box in Box structure that seemingly covers the entire concert hall with perfect noise insulation does not let any noise creep in from the outside. This allows the audience to focus solely on the music, while the acoustics, designed by the world’s leading acoustics consultant Nagata Acoustics, have been optimized for classical music through 1/10th scale model tests.

    Extraordinary acoustics crafted by world-renowned masters from design to completion, ‘Nagata Acoustics’
    Lotte Concert Hall entrusted its acoustic design to Nagata Acoustics, the firm responsible for the acoustics of world-renowned concert halls such as Suntory Hall in Japan, Walt Disney Concert Hall in the United States, and Philharmonie de Paris in France, achieving acoustics of a truly world-class standard. To achieve optimal acoustics, meticulous attention was given not only to architectural design but also to the structure of the stage floor, noise isolation for lighting and audiovisual equipment, and the design of audience seating with carefully calculated sound absorption. In particular, Yasuhisa Toyota, a principal consultant at Nagata Acoustics, participated in the entire design and construction process—from 1:10 scale model testing to final acoustic evaluations—bringing the hall’s acoustics to completion.     Lotte Concert Hall’s pursuit of more refined and richer acoustics extends to its architectural technology. To provide the optimal environment for listening, Lotte Concert Hall is the first performance venue in Korea to adopt a BOX-in-BOX structure, in which the hall’s internal structure—floors, walls, and ceiling—is completely separated from the external structure. By enclosing one space within another, the BOX-in-BOX structure creates a double layer that effectively blocks external noise and vibration, enhancing the audience’s immersion in the performance. The 2,036 elegantly designed seats, featuring a red-toned gradient inspired by the way melodies flow from the stage into the audience, allow concertgoers to feel a unique sense of becoming part of the music. The reduction of soft reverberation that can occur when the hall is fully occupied has been addressed through careful selection of seating materials, layout, and installation. Recognizing that subtle differences in sound can create profound emotional impact, Lotte Concert Hall has been meticulously designed down to the finest detail. Korea’s First Round Stage Lift and The King of Instruments, The Pipe Organ

    Lotte Concert Hall is the first concert hall in Korea to install a round stage lift. The stage lift, which allows its height to be freely adjusted, not only enhances performers’ convenience, but also enables a wide range of classical performances, from small-scale concerts such as solo recitals and chamber music to large-scale performances including orchestral and choral works, making it highly efficient. The stage lift at Lotte Concert Hall is an optimal facility designed to present richer and more diverse classical performances.

    The pipe organ, often referred to as the “King of Instruments” for its ability to express orchestral sonorities, is an instrument found only in a select number of distinguished classical halls. The pipe organ at Lotte Concert Hall, the first classical concert hall in Korea to install a pipe organ, was built by Rieger, the Austrian company that also produced the pipes for the Vienna Musikverein Hall, and is a single “work” that took more than three years to develop and install. Through more than 5,000 pipes producing 68 distinct sounds (68 stops), the pipe organ of Lotte Concert Hall offers a harmony of beautiful form and a mysterious, richly varied soundscape for audiences to experience.

As the stage is surrounded by audience seating, the lighting system has been designed accordingly. Eco-friendly LED audience lighting with a color temperature of 2,700K has been installed, along with lighting throughout the seating areas, including the interior and exterior of the ceiling’s acoustic reflectors, to fully enhance the appeal of the space. This refined lighting, which provides comfortable visibility, will elevate the quality of classical performances to a higher level.
