Hello, my name is Sung Kwang Kim, the CEO of Lotte Foundation for Arts.
With the inauguration of Lotte Concert Hall in August 2016, our foundation has attempted to bring exceptional joy to the greater audience. Furthermore, we are constantly looking for new ways of developing support for the arts by expanding the field of classical music through various programs that aim to discover and foster new talent and educate the public.

As the first concert hall in Korea to feature the pipe organ, the Lotte Concert Hall has garnered much attention not only from avid classical music fans but also the general public.
Since musicians can now perform pieces that incorporate the pipe organ, the Hall has diversified the classical music repertoire in Korea. The Lotte Concert Hall aims to strengthen the standing of Korean classical music both home and abroad by establishing an International Organ Competition that shows off the level of Korean organists.

Many talented Korean organists have participated in international competitions to have the chance to win and perform, and along with personal recognition, these performers are increasing the prestige of Korean musicians in general. The establishment of International Organ Competition in Korea will further advance the status of Korean classical music, and this competition will serve as a stepping stone for developing talented musicians further.

I want to use this opportunity to thank those that are dedicated to the growth of Korean organ music, including Director Ja Kyung Oh of Korean Association of Organists and its board of directors, as well as the judges, who strive to hold a fair competition.

Welcome to the first “International Organ Competition of Korea (IOCK).” The Korean Association of Organists is co-organizing this competition together with the Lotte Foundation for Arts. The Korean Association of Organists, since its foundation in 1984, has been devoted to enhancing interest in pipe organs and organ music, along with supporting for better education and collaboration of the organists. At this point, we are very pleased to initiate the IOCK to share the charms of organ music, as well as to encourage and recognize talented young organists.

The IOCK will proudly present two of the most distinguished organs in Seoul. The Rieger organ, which holds high reputation of being installed in many renowned concert halls, is even enriched with excellent acoustics of the Lotte Concert Hall. While the GOArt organ at the Korea National University of Arts, built in historic Schnitger style, will lead you to more genuine sound of Baroque organ. During the competition period, we will host the Competition Fringe as a special event. Everyone is welcomed to participate in the master classes and the lectures to be delivered by our eminent jury members.

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the Lotte Foundation for the financial support of the IOCK, to the jury members, to the board members of the KAO, and to all who are interested in IOCK. I sincerely hope that the seed of IOCK soon grows to become a fascinating organ festival in the near future.
