Concert Information

MANDRED HONECK’S MAHLER SYMPHONY NO. 1

Thu Sep 5 8pm | Seoul Arts Center, Concert Hall

Fri Sep 6 8pm | LOTTE Concert Hall

Manfred Honeck, conductor

Christian Tetzlaff, violin

Beethoven, Violin Concerto in D major, Op. 61

Mahler, Symphony No. 1 in D major

If you could hear silence, how would it sound? Maybe something like the massive stillness that opens Mahler’s First Symphony. A magical spring dawn or the creation of the universe itself? It’s the starting point for a young artist’s journey to the heart of absolute tragedy and glorious triumph a journey through life and death, birdsong and fanfares, funeral marches and Viennese waltz. Well, Mahler did say that “the symphony should be like the world it must embrace everything”, and it’s one of those pieces that simply has to be experienced live. Manfred Honeck understands its every note just as the super Christian Tetzlaff might be the finest living interpreter of Beethoven’s huge, sunlit Violin Concerto.
